SecureView Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

This privacy policy explains specifically how SecureView, the IP camera viewer and recorder by ZenByte Apps, handles your camera credentials, video recordings, and related data. For our general website and company privacy practices, see the ZenByte Apps Privacy Policy.

Introduction

ZenByte Apps ("we", "us", or "our") publishes SecureView, a Windows desktop application for viewing and recording IP/ONVIF security cameras. Because SecureView connects to cameras on your home or business network and can record video, we want to be exceptionally clear about what stays on your PC and what, if anything, ever leaves it.

The Short Version

  • Your camera video and recordings are processed and stored locally on your PC - we do not operate any server that receives your footage.
  • Camera usernames and passwords are stored using the Windows Credential Manager, encrypted by Windows itself.
  • Cloud backup to OneDrive is optional, off by default, and connects directly to your own Microsoft account - ZenByte Apps never sees those files.
  • We never sell your data to third parties.

1. Information SecureView Collects

The type of data SecureView handles depends on how you configure and use the app.

1.1 Camera Connection Details

  • Camera Credentials: IP address, port, username, and password for each RTSP/ONVIF camera you add. These are stored locally using Windows Credential Manager and are never transmitted to ZenByte Apps.
  • Camera Discovery: SecureView uses ONVIF/WS-Discovery to find compatible cameras on your local network. This discovery traffic stays on your local network and is not sent to us.

1.2 Video, Photos, and Recordings

  • Live Streams: Video from your cameras is decoded and displayed locally on your PC using hardware-accelerated decoding. Streams are not routed through ZenByte Apps servers.
  • Recordings & Snapshots: Motion-triggered and scheduled recordings, along with snapshots, are saved to the media folder you choose on your own PC (or external drive).
  • Media Library Metadata: File names, timestamps, camera names, and durations are indexed locally so you can search and browse your media library within the app.

1.3 Optional Cloud Backup (OneDrive)

If you choose to enable cloud upload for a camera, SecureView connects directly to your Microsoft OneDrive account using Microsoft's own sign-in and authorization flow. Uploaded recordings and snapshots go straight from your PC to your OneDrive - ZenByte Apps servers are never in that path, and we do not have access to your OneDrive content or credentials. This feature is off by default.

1.4 Application & Diagnostic Data

  • Settings: Your language, theme, and media folder preferences, stored locally in the app.
  • Microsoft Store Diagnostics: As with any app distributed through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft may collect standard installation and crash diagnostic data under its own privacy policy. ZenByte Apps does not operate separate analytics servers for SecureView.

2. How This Information Is Used

  • Connecting to Your Cameras: Credentials are used solely to authenticate with the cameras you configure.
  • Displaying & Recording Video: Live feeds and recordings exist to provide the monitoring functionality you set up.
  • Motion Alerts: When motion detection triggers an email notification, SecureView sends that email using the notification settings you configure; message content is limited to the alert itself (camera name, time, and optionally a snapshot).
  • Cloud Backup: If enabled, uploaded files are used only to create a personal backup copy in your own OneDrive.

3. What We Do Not Do

  • We do not operate cloud servers that receive, store, or view your camera footage.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your camera credentials, recordings, or footage with third parties.
  • We do not use your recordings for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the functionality you enable.
  • We do not require an account or subscription to use SecureView's core monitoring and recording features.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

Because camera video and recordings are processed locally, there is generally no footage for ZenByte Apps to share. Limited exceptions:

  • Your Own Cloud Account: If you enable OneDrive backup, files are shared only with the Microsoft account you connect - governed by Microsoft's own privacy policy.
  • Email Notifications: Motion alert emails are sent to the address(es) you configure, using standard email delivery infrastructure.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information we do hold (such as support correspondence) if required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and users' safety.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, any data we hold would transfer under the same protections described here.

5. Network & Device Permissions

The Microsoft Store listing for SecureView discloses the following device capabilities, consistent with its functionality:

  • Access your home or work networks: Required to discover and connect to IP/ONVIF cameras on your local network.
  • Access your Internet connection: Required for optional features such as OneDrive backup and email notifications.
  • System resources: Required for GPU-accelerated video decoding of multiple simultaneous camera streams.

6. Data Security

  • Credential Manager: Camera usernames and passwords are stored using the Windows Credential Manager, encrypted by Windows and tied to your Windows user account.
  • Local-First Design: Because video processing and storage happen on your own PC, your footage is only as exposed as the device and folder you choose to store it in.
  • Encrypted Transfers: Any optional network transfer (such as OneDrive upload or email alerts) uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
  • Your Responsibility: Please use strong, unique camera passwords and keep your Windows account secure, since SecureView relies on your device's own protections for locally stored media.

7. Data Retention

Recordings, snapshots, and media library entries remain on your PC (or connected storage) until you delete them or clear them from within the app - SecureView does not automatically delete your media unless you configure a retention or overwrite setting. Camera credentials remain in Windows Credential Manager until you remove the camera from the app.

8. Your Choices and Controls

  • Cameras: Add or remove cameras, and their stored credentials, at any time from within SecureView.
  • Cloud Backup: Enable or disable OneDrive upload per camera, or disconnect the OneDrive connection entirely from Cloud Storage settings.
  • Notifications: Turn audio alarms and email notifications on or off per camera.
  • Media Folder: Choose where recordings and snapshots are saved, and delete them directly through the app or Windows File Explorer.

9. Children's Privacy

SecureView is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child's information has been collected, please contact us so we can assist.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as SecureView's features evolve. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above, and we encourage you to review this page periodically, especially before enabling new features such as cloud backup.
